Environment Description 1. Scope of Responsibility: Designs, builds, and enhances a Citrix XenApp environment. Works closely with the Architecture and Portal Development teams to ensure alignment and directs the integration of both subsystems and external components. 2. Depth of Skillset Required: Citrix XenApp environment is chartered to provide world-class cloud-hosted solutions to external organizations, large and small, individual lines of business, and entire enterprises. Delivery methods include Microsoft Terminal Services, Microsoft App-V, and Citrix XenApp. This position's role is one of defining the infrastructure and standards for the engineers to follow, and engineering solutions and application sets themselves. It also provides significant expertise in the areas of Citrix XenApp—and other Citrix products, including NetScaler and XenServer—Terminal Services, and all of the supporting infrastructure and technologies behind the solutions. The position requires expert-level knowledge in these technologies. The successful candidate will be consulted on the most complex of issues as well as sought out for architectural direction on small and simple through large and complex implementations and complete environments. 3. Overall Benefit to the Team: This person in this position, one of the most senior and knowledgeable engineer on the team, mentors other team members, and leads architectural discussions and provides roadmap direction to the team. The successful candidate will make the entire project more efficient by not only defining future products, but at maintaining a smooth-running, stable, and efficient set of environments to host “core” and line of business applications. This position exists to provide these services to the team and to the external customer organizations.  Position Overview This position exists to architect and define the Citrix XenApp infrastructure and individual customer organization-sponsored projects. This complex infrastructure is to span several cloud-hosting providers and is to include built-in disaster recovery and load balanced functions. This position also provides critical guidance to other engineers and team members, not only in the Published Desktop team, but throughout the enterprise. Scope Information This position interfaces at many levels, including 1. Infrastructure team members, 2. Peer teams 3. Architecture groups, 4. Management and senior management, and 5. Customer organizations. 1. Citrix XenApp infrastructure team: As noted above this position provides critical guidance to other engineers and team members. Guidance will be sought, not only in troubleshooting the most complex of problems, but also in architectural engineering functions. 2. Peer teams: Critical guidance is provided also to peer teams in architecting solutions for Citrix XenApp infrastructure, and also in solutions that both utilize the infrastructure as a service and services in which the infrastructure is utilized to enhance application offerings as well as more stable and functional environments. 3. Architecture groups: Interface with Architecture teams in strategic design and roadmap definition. 4. Management and senior management: As required, presentations to management created with input and direction, and often, insights in meetings are well placed resources from a depth of knowledge not found anywhere else. 5. Customer organizations: Often in front of business lines for larger issues and also on the front-end of projects--sizings, consultant-level direction, and solution-oriented designs. Many internal customer organizations utilize the Citrix XenApp infrastructure and take advantage of environments that are architected and designed by this position. The most complex and difficult requirements are required to be solved at this level. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities 8-10 years of architecting, implementing, and maintaining large (100+ servers) complex (100+ applications) XenApp environments. Windows Server 2008 R2, Terminal Server, Citrix XenApp 6, VB scripting, deep knowledge of application functionality, network, operating systems, authentication, and security. Visual Basic programming, Active Directory integration, networking background, deep knowledge of operating systems, systems components and functions, and an overall architectural mindset. BA/BS College Degree (4-year) or equivalent in Computer Science, Communications, or equivalent Primary Responsibilities Communicates with customers, fellow team members and management. Mentors/trains other team members. Strive for team excellence in production support, design, and implementation. This relates directly to customer organization-sponsored projects. Provides direction for operating system engineering in project-level builds and images. Architect and implement solutions into the Citrix XenApp infrastructure and environments. Leads architectural- and infrastructure-level discussions. Provides direction for operating systems engineering and the "base" system image. Defines infrastructure, software, and hardware requirements, specifications, and needed changes. Contributor Details Evaluates new technologies that will increase functionality or capacity of infrastructure applications and the infrastructure itself. This person is considered the prime expert and primary source of knowledge relating to virtual technologies and Citrix XenApp. The team follows the technical leadership and vision provided by many well-spent years in this technical space. This position is a technical lead, which means that this position provides mentoring and tutelage to other team members. This position is always consulted on any infrastructure-level change or direction.
